Tswelopele Cornelia Moremi

Tswelopele Cornelia Moremi (born January 18, 1954 ; † March 26, 2018 in Berlin ) was a Botswana diplomat .

Life

She studied at the University of Botswana and at the Institute of Development Studies in The Hague in the Netherlands .

In 1978 she joined the Botswana Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. After some time, she took on the leading role as coordinator for rural development programs. In 1993 she became permanent secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry. She was the second woman in Botswana to achieve this high management position. In particular, the initiative to restructure the Ministry went back to her, as a result of which the Ministry was divided into the Ministries for Trade and Industry and the Ministry for the Environment, Wildlife and Tourism. She held the function until 2003. She also led the negotiations that led to the 2002 revision of the Treaties of the Customs Union of Southern Africa (SACU).

From 2004 to 2014 she was Director of the Customs Union of Southern Africa. In 2014 she became Botswana's first ambassador to be based in Germany until her death .
