Tobias Wellemeyer

Tobias Wellemeyer (born September 2, 1961 in Dresden ) is a German director and artistic director .

Live and act

Wellemeyer grew up in Dresden . He studied theater studies in Leipzig and made his directorial debut in Dresden in 1989. From 1989 to 2001 he worked as a director at the Dresden State Theater. His production Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen opened the renovated and reconstructed building of the Dresden State Theater in 1995. Guest productions took him to Bonn and Mainz .

From 2001 he was director of the Freie Kammerspiele Magdeburg, until in 2004 he was appointed general director with overall responsibility for a newly created theater in Magdeburg , which emerged from the merger of the Freie Kammerspiele and the then theater of the state capital. Until 2009 he was in charge of the Magdeburg Dreispartenhaus with the opera Magdeburg and Schauspiel Magdeburg venues and realized numerous productions in drama and music theater. In 2009 he was awarded the German Critics' Prize in the theater category.

Tobias Wellemeyer has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts Bensheim since 2009 and a member of the board of directors at the German Stage Association . From 2009 to 2018 he was director of the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam .

He is married to the actress and singer Andrea Thelemann .
