Ilse Junkermann born Meister (born May 31, 1957 in Dörzbach ) is a German Protestant theologian. On March 21, 2009 she was elected regional bishop of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany and on August 29, 2009, she was introduced to the office in Magdeburg Cathedral . She was released from office on July 6, 2019.

Life

Ilse Junkermann studied Protestant theology in Tübingen and Göttingen . She was pastor in Horb am Neckar and Stuttgart . In 1994 she became the director of studies for pastoral theology and sermon teaching at the parish seminary in Stuttgart-Birkach . In 1997 Junkermann was elected senior church councilor of the Württemberg regional church . There she headed the department of theological training and pastoral service.

Outside of her job, Junkermann was involved in asylum and migrant work. She is also a member of the board of trustees of the International Martin Luther Foundation . In 2010 she called on Stasi victims and perpetrators to reconcile and not to condemn those responsible for repression.

She has a son from her first marriage and has been married to Michael Wolf for the second time since December 11, 2009.

Ilse Junkermann has been the anniversary ambassador of the v. Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel .

Junkermann's wish to remain in office for four years after the end of her term of office until reaching retirement age, which would be possible at the request of the regional church council, was rejected by the regional church council on November 22, 2017. Thus her term of office ended after ten years. From September 1, 2019, the Research Center for Church Practice in the GDR was set up for them at the University of Leipzig . The academic analysis of the particularities of church life in the GDR was limited to August 2023, six months before her retirement.

In addition, from 2009 to 2019 she was chairwoman of the Church Foundation for Art and Culture in the ecclesiastical province of Saxony .
