Joachim Liebig (born March 1, 1958 in Hildesheim ) is a Protestant theologian and since January 1, 2009, Church President of the Evangelical Church of Anhalt , based in Dessau .

Live and act

Joachim Liebig studied Protestant theology at the Bethel Church University and in Hamburg from 1978 and completed his vicariate in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Schaumburg-Lippe from 1985 to 1987 . He did an internship in Schellerhau in the Eastern Ore Mountains and gained international experience in England and France. After the second theological exam in 1987, Liebig was given the pastor's post in the parish of Frille near Minden.

Between 1989 and 2000, in addition to his work as a pastor - as is usual in Schaumburg-Lippe - he took on numerous, temporary additional assignments. Among other things, he was press spokesman for the regional church of Schaumburg-Lippe for ten years, regional youth pastor for four years, and he was the founder and long-term chairman of the regional Bible Society. In 2000 Liebig was appointed superintendent of the church district West (12 pastors). Until the end of 2007 he was President of the regional synod in Schaumburg-Lippe and then, at his own request, did not stand as a candidate for the following synodal period. Until the end of 2008 he was President of the Synod of the Confederation of Evangelical Churches in Lower Saxony .

On November 14, 2008, Joachim Liebig was elected by the regional synod of the Evangelical Church of Anhalt as the successor to Helge Klassohn as church president. Liebig took office on January 1, 2009.

Joachim Liebig is married to the doctor's assistant Andrea Liebig and has three grown children. He is a member of the board of the Anhaltische Heimatbund, chairman of the Anhaltische Landschaft eV, chairman of the Evangelical Press Association in Central Germany, deputy chairman of the mission council of the Berliner Missionswerk and a member of the supervisory board of the joint project for Evangelical Journalism (GEP) .
