Sigurd Rink

Sigurd Immanuel Rink , b. Becker (born October 20, 1960 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Protestant theologian. From August 2014 to July 2020 he was the first full-time Protestant military bishop in Germany.

Life

Sigurd Rink passed the Abitur at the St. Johann Abbey School in Amöneburg in 1978. After a theater project in 1979, he began studying Protestant theology in Marburg , Heidelberg and Munich in 1980 . In 1984 he received the International Bonhoeffer Competition prize for his work at Eilert Herms on Bonhoeffer's concept of “simplicity”. In 1993 he did his doctorate at the University of Giessen under Martin Greschat with the topic: “The authorized person. Provost Heinrich Grüber and the government of the GDR ”. In 1996 he completed a training course at the community work of Protestant journalism asCommunications host.

In 1989 Rink was ordained a pastor . The parish vicariate in Usingen / Taunus (1989–1993) was followed by a pastor's position in Königstein-Falkenstein (1993–1998). From 1998 to 2002 Rink was personal advisor to the church president of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN), Peter Steinacker , and from 1999-2000 also press spokesman. In 2002 the synod of the EKHN elected him provost for the provost of South Nassau, on April 25, 2007 he was re-elected until 2014, and on April 26, 2013 until 2020. In the election as church president of the EKHN he was defeated on September 27, 2008 with 74:80 votes to Dean Volker Jung .

From 2002 to 2014 Rink was chairman of the convents of the Evangelical Academy of Hesse and Nassau in Frankfurt am Main. He is vice-president of the Evangelical Federation , member of the board of the Scheuert foundation and a member of the scientific advisory board for the evaluation of the church struggle documentation in the EKHN .

In 2014 Rink was appointed the first full-time Protestant military bishop. He took up his post on July 15 and was officially appointed to his post on September 8, 2014 in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin by the chairman of the EKD, Nikolaus Schneider . In July 2020, he was removed from office after the end of his six-year term; in September he will take over a position as office manager from Ulrich Lilie in the Evangelical Work for Diaconia and Development . Bernhard Felmberg has been appointed as his successor on October 1, 2020 .

Sigurd Rink has been married to the musicologist and teacher Gabriele Rink since 1987; they have three grown children.
