Ulrich Lily

Ulrich Lilie (born June 24, 1957 in Rhumspringe , Lower Saxony ) is a German Protestant theologian and has been President of Diakonie Deutschland since 2014 and has been Deputy Chairman of the Evangelical Work for Diakonia and Development since 2020 .

Life

Ulrich Lily was in 1977 the High School at Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Dusseldorf and studied - as a Fellow of the Evangelical Studies Villigst - Protestant theology at the universities of Bonn , Göttingen and Hamburg . 1981 to 1982 he completed a social semester in the Protestant parish in Bottrop- Altstadt with Michael Schibilsky . After passing the first theological exam he was vicar in the parish of Essen - Bergeborbeck / Vogelheim and after passing the second theological exam in 1989 he was ordained a pastor in the Evangelical Church in Karlsbrunn an der Saar .

In 1990 Lilie took up his service as a pastor in the special service at the Evangelical Hospital in Düsseldorf and then took over a pastor's position at the Düsseldorf Peace Church in 1994 with the additional task of management and pastoral care at the hospice at the Evangelical Hospital. From 2007 to 2011 he was city superintendent in charge of the Düsseldorf church district and in 2011 took on the duties of a theological director of the Graf Recke Foundation in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital, one of the oldest diaconal institutions in Germany with 1,500 employees.

During his professional activity, Lilie performed part-time and honorary tasks such as a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKIR) and a board member of the Evangelical Hospital Association of Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe (1996 to 2011), as a member of the board of trustees and member of the technical committee of the Diakonie in Düsseldorf (since 1996), as a member of the EKIR Inner Church Committee (since 2008) and as a member of the presidium of the supervisory board of the clinic association "Evangelical Clinics Niederrhein" (since 2012).

In December 2013, Lilie was appointed President for the Diakonia Germany division by the Supervisory Board of the Evangelical Work for Diakonia and Development (EWDE) in Berlin and was confirmed by the Diakonia and Development Conference in March 2014. He succeeded Johannes Stockmeier , who retired in May 2014. Lilie, who has also been deputy chairman of the EWDE since 2020 , was officially introduced to his office on September 3, 2014 by the deputy chairman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), the Saxon regional bishop Jochen Bohl , which he has held since July 2014 Has.
