Karl Hermann Friedrich Grunert , Karl Grunert for short , (born September 25, 1867 in Stallupönen , East Prussia ; † October 20, 1941 in Bremen ) was a German ophthalmologist .

education and profession

Grunert studied after high school in Konigsberg medicine at the University of Königsberg and at the University of Marburg and received his doctorate Dr. med. After the state examination he became an assistant at the eye clinic of the University Clinic in Tübingen and completed his habilitation there in 1898. In 1902 he was appointed professor in the field of ophthalmology .

In 1904 he moved to Bremen and took over the practice from Georg Stube. He and Dr med August Lürman (1866–1913) founded an eye clinic in 1905 on Herderstrasse in the Fesenfeld district . He was an excellent eye surgeon and has published a number of articles. In 1929 the practice was moved to Rembertistraße, where Grunert worked until his death.

Memberships and honors

Grunert was also chairman of the General Bremen Gymnastics Club of 1860 (ABTV) for a long time , which merged with the Bremen Sports Club (BSC) in 1919 .

After 1919 he was on the Bremen executive board of the German National People's Party (DNVP).

The Karl Grunert Street in Bremen- Arsten was named in 1966 after him.
