The Evangelical Church Karlsbrunn is a church of the Protestant parish Völklingen-Warndt in Saarland Karlsbrunn , in the municipality of Großrosseln in regional Saarbrücken . The parish is assigned to the Saar-West parish of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

In 1724, a Lutheran congregation was founded in Karlsbrunn, which arose at the beginning of the 18th century as a settlement for Hessian glass and mirror makers. Various temporary arrangements were used for the service until 1744 , before a rectory with a prayer room on the first floor could be built. In 1794 the pastor's position was abolished, which also meant that the Lutheran parish of Karlsbrunn ceased to exist. The pastors of the neighboring congregations then took over pastoral care until the union with Dudweiler took place in 1818 .

Since the middle of the 19th century, the influx of foreign workers has led to an increase in the number of Protestant Christians in Karlsbrunn and the surrounding villages in Warndt . In 1858, this led to the re-establishment of an independent Protestant parish in Karlsbrunn, which was again equipped with its own pastoral office. Since the prayer room in the rectory no longer met the requirements of the community towards the end of the 19th century, it was decided to build a parish church . Architect Heinrich Güth ( Saarbrücken ) made the plans for the new church building . The foundation stone was laid on June 7, 1896. The completed church was consecrated on August 12, 1897.

In 1975 the church underwent an interior restoration . In the years 1993 to 1999 further restoration measures followed.

Architecture and equipment

The Protestant church in Karlsbrunn was built in the style of historicism , whereby mainly neo-Gothic forms were used. The church building is divided into a four-axis nave , which is closed in the east by a drawn-in five-sided polygonal choir , and a bell tower with a pointed spire that is attached to the south-west corner of the nave. A sacristy is also attached to the choir .

On the exterior, the choir is the only structure to have buttresses . The stone-facing masonry of the exterior is structured through individual stone details. In the interior there are vaults in the choir apse , while the nave is closed at the top by a wooden ceiling in the form of a segment barrel . In the choir apse, which is separated from the nave by two steps and a triumphal arch , the altar stands in the middle . The pulpit is attached to the side of the triumphal arch .

In addition to the altar and pulpit, there is also a baptismal font in the form of a stone chalice from the year 2000. In the years 1995 to 1999, the historic painting of the interior was restored.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1849 by Johann Christoph Mellmann for the Reformed Church in Heiligenhaus in North Rhine-Westphalia . The single-manual instrument with attached pedal , which is set up on the west transverse pore on the tower side, has eight registers . The play and stop action are mechanical, the wind chest designed as a sliding chest. The disposition is as follows:
