Eilert Herms

Eilert Herms (born December 11, 1940 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) ) is a Protestant theologian and most recently taught as a professor of systematic theology at the Protestant theological faculty of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen .

Herms studied Protestant theology , philosophy and German in Berlin , Mainz , Tübingen and theology at the University of Göttingen . In 1971 he received his doctorate and in 1975 he completed his habilitation. In 1979 Herms was appointed full professor for systematic theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , in 1985 he moved to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz in the same position .

From 1995 until his retirement in 2009 he was full professor for systematic theology in Tübingen , at the same time director of the institute for ethics and from 2000 to 2006 dean of the Protestant theological faculty.

Among the numerous honorary positions of Herms, the chairmanship of the Scientific Society for Theology (1996–2002) and membership in the Theological Committee of the VELKD and in the Theological Chamber of the EKD (1996–2008) should be emphasized.
