Wilfried Harle

Wilfried Härle (born September 6, 1941 in Heilbronn ) is a German Protestant theologian who was professor of theology at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1978 to 1995 and professor of systematic theology and ethics at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg from 1995 to 2006 .

Life

Wilfried Härle studied Protestant theology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in Heidelberg and at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Erlangen. He received his doctorate in 1969 from the Ruhr University Bochum in Bochum. theol. His dissertation was called: The theology of the "early" Karl Barth in its relationship to the theology of Martin Luther . 1973 followed the habilitation for systematic theology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel on the subject of being and grace - the ontology in Karl Barth's church dogmatics .

From 1977 to 1978 Härle held a lectureship at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands before he was appointed to the Philipps University in Marburg in 1978, where he held a professorship until 1995. From 1995 to 2006 Härle was professor for systematic theology and ethics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg.

From 1997 to 2010 Wilfried Härle was chairman of the Chamber for Public Responsibility of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) . At the same time he was a member of the Enquête Commission of the German Bundestag "Ethics and Law of Modern Medicine" from 2002 to 2005 . He also spoke publicly about human dignity and self-determination. He advocated seeing and living them in an answerable, responsible counterpart to God and a caring, royal steward of the earth.
