Dietmar Arends

Dietmar Arends (born January 19, 1963 in Bad Godesberg ) is a German evangelical reformed pastor and since March 2014 state superintendent of the Lippe regional church based in Detmold .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bad Bentheim, Arends studied Protestant theology in Münster , Tübingen and Wuppertal . After the first theological exam he completed the vicariate in East Frisia and after his ordination he was pastor in Leer (East Frisia) from 1997 to 2008 . In 2001 he took over the chairmanship of the Diakonisches Werk of the Evangelical Reformed Church (regional church) in Leer. From 2008 he was pastor for diakonia and ecumenism in this regional church. In June 2013 he was elected to head the North German Mission .

On November 25, 2013, the Synod of the Lippe Regional Church elected him with 39 out of 51 votes in the first ballot as their state superintendent and thus their leading clergyman. He took up his new office on March 1, 2014, followed by his inauguration on May 4, 2014. This makes him the 33rd Lippe state superintendent (or general superintendent) since the Reformation and the seventh in the post-war period.

In October 2018 Arends was elected chairman of the board of the Evangelical Mission in Germany.
