Almantas Savonis (born January 6, 1970 in Druskininkai / Soviet Union ) is a Lithuanian handball player . He is 1.95 m tall.

Career
Almantas Savonis started playing handball in his hometown; later he came to the youth boarding school of Granitas Kaunas, where he also made his debut in the first Lithuanian league. His team has won the championship every year since the establishment of an independent Lithuanian league; therefore Savonis was soon looking for a new challenge and moved to Karlovac in the Croatian league. In 1998 he was hired for the first time in the German handball league with the SC Magdeburg Gladiators , where he won the EHF Cup in 1999. However, Savonis was mostly only second choice behind Henning Fritz in the goal of the Elbestädter, so that after only one year he moved to the Dessau AGM 1996 in the 2nd handball league . In 2000 he went for a year to the Spanish club Garbel Saragossa , which had just been relegated from the ASOBAL league at the time ; In 2001, however, Savonis returned to Germany and joined the second division HC Empor Rostock . After only one year, he went to HSG Düsseldorf , with whom he rose to the first division in 2004. With the Rhinelanders he managed to stay in the top German league for four years, but in 2008 Düsseldorf was relegated again. In January 2015 he moved to third division club VfL Eintracht Hagen .
Almantas Savonis has played 116 international matches for the Lithuanian national team so far. For his country he took part in the men's handball world championship in 1997 and the European handball championship in 1998.
