André-Louis Debierne

André-Louis Debierne (born July 14, 1874 in Paris ; † August 31, 1949 there ) was a French chemist and university professor .

His friends included Pierre and Marie Curie , with whom he worked temporarily.

From 1935 to 1946 he was a professor in Paris and director of the Laboratory for Physics and Radioactivity there.

Debierne dealt with the technical extraction and enrichment of radioactive substances from uranium ores . In 1899 he discovered the element actinium in residues of pitchblende . In 1902 he isolated radium with M. Curie. In 1907 he found actinium emanation ( 219 radon ) and proved helium to be its decay product. He also determined the relative atomic mass of radon.
