André Cox

André Cox (born July 12, 1954 in Harare , Federation of Rhodesia and Nyassaland ) is a Swiss - British Salvation Army officer and from August 2013 to August 2018 the 20th General of the Salvation Army .

Life

André Cox was born in 1954 as the son of a British and a Swiss woman in the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. His parents were working for the Salvation Army there at the time. Cox grew up there and in the United Kingdom. He later moved to Switzerland, where he met his future wife, Silvia Volet .

In Switzerland, both began training as Salvation Army officers. They married on September 25, 1976. Then both attended the International Training College of the Salvation Army in London . On May 25, 1979, they were ordained Salvation Army officers. Cox was now active in the territory of Switzerland-Austria and, from the second half of the 1980s, in the territory of Zimbabwe . At Harare headquarters , Cox served as the public relations secretary and the finance secretary.

In the second half of the 1990s he returned to the territory of Switzerland, Austria and Hungary . In Bern , Cox spent eight years as a communications secretary and administrative secretary. In July 2005 he became Territorial Manager for Finland and Estonia , and in October 2008 Territorial Manager for South Africa . In May 2012, he became Territory Director of the United Kingdom and Ireland . In February 2013 he was appointed Chief of Staff, the second highest office in the International Salvation Army. Following the resignation of Linda Bond , Cox was elected 20th General of the Salvation Army by the High Council on August 3, 2013. His wife served as a commander for the organization and as world president of women's organizations. The five-year term as General of the Salvation Army ended in autumn 2018.

Cox is the father of three daughters.
