Linda Bond

Linda Bond (born June 22, 1946 in Glace Bay , Nova Scotia , Canada ) was the international leader of the Salvation Army from 2011 to June 13, 2013 .

Life

In 1967 she became a cadet at a Salvation Army officers' school in Canada. Two years later, she was ordained a Salvation Army officer on June 21, 1969. For the next nine years she worked in various corps. She then became a lecturer at the Officers School in Toronto and later candidate secretary. She then headed the Corps in Kitchener , Ontario . She then served as the Assistant Director of the Officers School in St. John's , Newfoundland . Bond then served as Divisional Secretary for the Maritime Division in Canada and a division officer in the same division. In 1995 she became Undersecretary for Personnel at the Salvation Army's International Headquarters in London . In 1998 she moved to the United Kingdom as a division officer in the Central North Division . She returned to Canada a year later and became chief secretary of the Canada and Bermuda Territory. In July 2002, she was transferred to the US West Territory, where she served as Territorial Leader and Territorial President of women's organizations. In 2005 she returned to International Headquarters as Secretary for Spiritual Development and International External Relations. In 2008, Bond became Territory Director of the East Australia Territory.

In January 2011 she was elected 19th General of the Salvation Army, succeeding General Shaw Clifton . Bond was after Evangeline Booth (1934-1939) and Eva Burrows (1986-1993) the third woman in this office. She retired in June 2013. André Cox became the new general .
