André Motte

André Motte (born 1936 in Pâturages ) is a Belgian historian of philosophy and religion .

André Motte studied classical philology at the University of Liege , and acquired in 1958 the licentiate . In 1967 the doctorate in philosophy followed. The University of Liège appointed him in 1986 to the chair for the history of ancient philosophy and moral philosophy , which he held until his retirement .

André Motte is vice-president of the Center international d'étude de la religion grecque and chairman of the international editorial committee of the magazine Kernos . His main research interests include the relationship between religion and philosophy, especially in ancient Greece , whereby he emphasizes that there is no epistemological break between the narratives of myth and the explanations of philosophy .
