Andrea Hopp

Andrea Hopp (* 1963 ) is a German historian .

Life

Hopp completed a degree in Middle and Modern History, Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology as well as Jewish Studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1996 she did her doctorate with Lothar Gall on a topic on German-Jewish history. 1997/98 she was a research assistant at the German Historical Institute in London . Since 1998 she has been a research assistant and since 2007 head of the Otto von Bismarck Foundation in Schönhausen.

Andrea Hopp has been a fellow at the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the Technical University of Berlin since 2014 . Her main research interests are the history of the bourgeoisie, the history of anti-Semitism and German-Jewish history.

Hopp organizes the annual “Art for Democracy” festival in Schönhausen. The project was honored by the Federal President as one of the 100 best ideas in Germany in 2013/14 as an 'Excellent Place in the Land of Ideas' . This is an example of how creative art events can be united to stand up for democracy.
