Andrea Tinnes

Andrea Tinnes (* 1969 in Püttlingen , Saarland ) is a German type designer, graphic designer and university professor.

life and work

Andrea Tinnes studied communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz from 1989 to 1996. From 1996 to 1998 she studied graphic design at the California Institute of the Arts / USA. From 1998 to 1999 she was design assistant at Jeffery Keedy in Los Angeles. From 1999 to 2000 she was teaching typography at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences. Since 2000 she has been working as a freelance type and graphic designer in Berlin. From 2003 to 2005 she was visiting professor at the Kunsthøgskolen i Bergen / Norway, from 2005 to 2008 she was adjunct professor there . In 2004 she founded her own font label typecuts. In 2007 she was visiting professor at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle . In the following years from 2007 to 2008 she became a substitute professor there. In 2008 she was finally appointed to the professorship for writing and typography at the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle. From 2010 to 2014 she was Vice Rector for Communication there.

In 2010 she was appointed to the art advisory board of the Federal Ministry of Finance .
