The Andreas-Hermes-Platz in Hanover is a pedestrian square in the south of the eastern part of Hanover, in the immediate vicinity of the main train station . It is bordered in the north by the cultural center Pavillon and the Weissekreuzstrasse, in the east by the DZ Bank , in the south by Berliner Allee and Raschplatzhochstrasse and in the west by the Lister Meile . Since the lower guide portion for central station , a seamless transition to the neighboring district center located Raschplatz occurs, the southwest corner of the square is sometimes associated with the both colloquially as well as in the press coverage as the Raschplatz.

The name of the square commemorates the politician Andreas Hermes, who was active in the resistance during National Socialism .

Today's square was created in the course of the new building of the pavilion cultural center on the area of the former court prison in Hanover. This prison, in which many opponents of National Socialism were imprisoned, is commemorated by the memorial to the court prison in Hanover , which was created by Hans-Jürgen Breuste , in the west of the square .

Also to the west, in the terraced exit to the underpass towards the main train station, is the sculpture group The Women of Messina designed by Rolf Szymanski . This part of the square is also regularly used by parkour athletes. The side walls were designed in 2016 by graffiti artists using the trompe-l'oeil technique. In the middle of the square is a circular fountain 40 meters in diameter. On the part of the square belonging to the open space of the DZ Bank, there was a wall made of solid stone blocks designed as a work of water art, which demarcated the square at around 50 meters from Berliner Allee. This open space was built on in the years 2017–2019 by a 54 meter high hotel skyscraper with a capacity of 220 beds and operated by Steigenberger Hotels AG under the IntercityHotel brand . The stone wall was removed in this process.

To the south, the view falls on the work of art Hangover by Andreas von Weizsäcker installed under Raschplatzhochstrasse . To the west, the view falls on the Lister Tor high-rise building and the telecommunications tower .

The Masala Festival takes place in the square every year .
