Andreas Baumann (opera director)

Andreas Baumann (* May 20, 1949 ; † August 16, 2019 ) was a German opera director and university lecturer .

Life

Andreas Baumann directed the Halle Opera from 1981 to 1991 . He was also active at the Meißen Theater , the Saxony State Theaters and the Dresden State Operetta. Baumann was a teacher at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden from 1974 to 2015 . From 1991 he worked there as a professor, in 2006 he was elected Vice Rector . In addition, Baumann was co-founder and first director of the Dresden Master Classes in 2013. In 2018 he was made an honorary senator of his university.

In 1986 he was awarded the Handel Prize of the Halle district .
