Andreas Birkner (writer)

Andreas Birkner (born August 15, 1911 in Kleinschenk , Transylvania ; † 1998 in Freiburg i. Br. ) Was a German writer, pastor and teacher.

Life

Birkner attended high school and the theological-pedagogical teachers' seminar in Sibiu . At first he worked as a teacher, later as a pastor. His literary debut was the story The farmer is looking for a lawyer in the magazine Klingsor in 1934. In 1958 he was arrested and sentenced to 25 years of forced labor in the Kronstadt writer's trial in the Kronstadt military court in 1959 . In 1964 he was released due to a general amnesty for political prisoners. In 1966 he left for the Federal Republic of Germany and worked there as a pastor at the University Clinic in Freiburg until his retirement .
