Andreas Isser

Andreas Isser (* 19th century; † 19th century) was a Transylvanian lexicographer and language teachers, Romance languages and Rumänist .

life and work

We only know of Isser (or Iszer, Ißer, Iser) what emerges from his works. In 1846 he called himself a factory director. In Kronstadt ( Brașov ) he published a Romanian language teaching for Germans in 1846, the second edition of which appeared in 1855. There he published a Romanian-German dictionary in 1850, which was reprinted in 1971 and 1988.

In the preface to this dictionary he speaks of having written a German-Romanian dictionary with 40,000 entries in six years of work. Since this dictionary did not appear under his name, it can be assumed that its content was used by George Bariț and Gavriil Munteanu for their German-Roman dictionary from 1853 to 1854, all the more so since his name is mentioned briefly in its foreword.
