Andreas Josef Mähr

Andreas Josef Mähr (born December 1, 1893 in Feldkirch - Altenstadt ; † January 12, 1957 in Feldkirch- Tisis ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP / ÖVP ) and farmer. He was mayor of Feldkirch and from 1945 to 1954 a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After seven years at the elementary school Feldkirch-Altenstadt, Mähr completed evening courses for the “Montfort” commercial association in Feldkirch and worked from 1906 to January 1910 as an errand boy and apprentice in the embroidery of his guardian. In February 1910 he became an invoice clerk at Perlhefter & Co. and served in the First World War between 1915 and 1918. From 1920 he worked as an accountant at the successor company of Perlhefter, J. Rhomberg & Co., where he was an authorized signatory from 1938 to 1945. After the Second World War he was a full-time mayor from 1945 to 1956.

Politics and functions

Mähr directed the fate of the community of Feldkirch from July 26, 1945 to July 31, 1956 as mayor and headed the personnel, schools, police and later also the finance department. As a member of the Feldkirch constituency, he represented the Austrian People's Party from December 11, 1945 to October 28, 1954 in the Vorarlberg state parliament, where he was a member of the Economic Committee and a member of the Legal Committee. He was also a member of the ÖAAB and a member of the regional management of the ÖAAB Vorarlberg.

Mähr was active from 1928 to 1943 as chairman of the city revision committee and until 1936 government commissioner for the organization of the state health insurance fund. Furthermore, he was involved from 1953 to 1957 as head of the Sparkasse Feldkirch , was assistant chairman of the Feldkirch trade cooperative and country manager of the trade union of trade employees. He was a co-founder and chairman of the Altenstadt youth club, a member of the “Montfort” commercial association in Feldkirch and a member of the administrative board of Stadtwerke Feldkirch. He was also active as chairman of the Feldkirch labor health insurance fund and chairman of the local school council.

Private

Mähr was born as the son of Stickers Andreas Mähr and his wife Kreszentia Mähr, née Hilbert. He was married to Rosa Köchle and the father of three sons, who were born between 1924 and 1927.
