Andreas Meyer-Lauber (* 1952 in Ahlen ) is a German trade unionist . From September 18, 2010 to December 8, 2017, he was chairman of the DGB state district of North Rhine-Westphalia . Before that, he had been state chairman of the Education and Science Union since 2004 .

Life

Meyer-Lauber studied political science, German, pedagogy and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin from 1970 to 1977 . He passed his second state examination for teaching at grammar schools in 1979 in Minden .

From 1980 to 1987 he was a teacher of social sciences and German at two grammar schools in Iserlohn and then until 2004 a teacher at a comprehensive school in Haspe .

From 1984 he was initially a member of the district staff council of the Arnsberg district government and from 1993 to 2004 a member of the main staff council for comprehensive schools at the NRW Ministry of Education.

Since October 2010 he is a member of the WDR - Broadcasting Council . Meyer-Lauber is an SPD member and was proposed by the SPD in North Rhine-Westphalia as a member of the 15th Federal Assembly . On December 2, 2016, Meyer-Lauber was elected by the members of the supervisory board as the new chairman of the WDR Broadcasting Council with a large majority (50 of 59 votes) for a five-year term of office. He succeeds Ruth Hieronymi , who did not run again as chairwoman of the Broadcasting Council.
