Ruth Hieronymi (born November 8, 1947 in Bonn ) is a German CDU politician and was a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 . From 2009 to 2016 she was chairman of the WDR - Broadcasting Council .

Hieronymi studied history and sociology at the University of Cologne and graduated in 1977 with the master's degree (MA). In 1971 she joined the CDU. From 1978 to 1981 she was head of department in the CDU federal office and from 1975 to 1990 a member of the Bonn City Council. From 1985 to 1999 she was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, from 1990 to 1997 deputy chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group in North Rhine-Westphalia, from 1990 to 1999 spokeswoman for the CDU parliamentary group in the main committee. She was a member of the Culture Committee of the European Parliament, an alternate member of the Employment Committee. Her main focus of work in the European Parliament was the culture committee: rapporteur for the EU program MEDIA Plus, education policy and youth policy. The focus of work in the constituency of the Middle Rhine was telecommunications, transport policy and consumer protection.

On December 2, 2009, she was elected by the Broadcasting Council as the new chairman of the WDR Broadcasting Council with 30 of 42 votes, as the successor to Reinhard Grätz, who retired for reasons of age . After 25 years of service and seven years of chairmanship, she was adopted by the Broadcasting Council in November 2016.

In August 2015, she was accused of censorship when she considered it appropriate to delete a tough-but-fair broadcast from the media library due to complaints.

Hieronymi is married and has two children.
