Andreas Oldbod

Andreas Oldbod (* 1959 in Travemünde ) is a German sound and installation artist .

1978–1988 he studied at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg and philosophy at the University of Hamburg . He had further study stays in Paris (1983–1984) and in the People's Republic of China (Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou , 1989–1990). He has been making sound sculptures since 1986 and since 1988 he has been working on a spatial basis, mainly with sound . Since 1987 Oldbod has been researching and expanding the sound generation principle of the pyrophone . Since 1988 he has been developing sound installations and sculptures with constant sounds that create complex and spatially variable sound fabrics. Oldbod does not use electronic sound generators; He uses organ pipes that are connected by a glass air duct system or singing flames , in which butane or hydrogen-powered burners cause the columns of air in glass cylinders to vibrate.

Andreas Oldbod is a member of the German Association of Artists . In 2012 he was appointed to the chair for sound art at the Saar College of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken. He lives in Hamburg.
