Andreas Schäfer (* before 1986) is a German prehistoric archaeologist .

Life

From 1986 to 1991 he studied Prehistory , European Archeology, Provincial Roman Archeology and Ancient History at the Universities of Munich , Oxford ( Master of Philosophy in European Archeology at the University of Oxford at Brasenose College 1992 ( Master thesis : The Gold-Grip Swords of Central and Western Europe: A Reappraisal )) and Marburg ( PhD in Pre- and Protohistory 2003). From 2000 to 2005 he was a research assistant at the prehistoric seminar at the Philipps University of Marburg . From 2005 to 2009 he was a research assistant at the Prehistory and Protohistory Department at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , where he completed his habilitation in Prehistory and Protohistory in 2009 with the habilitation thesis Early Iron Production in the Central Mountain Zone. Filed regional case studies from the Latène period to the early Middle Ages between Luxembourg and Bavaria . Since October 2009 he has been teaching as professor for prehistoric and protohistoric archeology at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg .

His main research interests are in the area of ​​Younger Prehistory and Metal Ages (especially the Younger Iron Age ), Roman Imperial Era , handicrafts and economics in prehistoric times; Mining archeology, especially metal extraction and metal processing as well as landscape archeology issues.
