Andrew of Yugoslavia

Prince Andreas Karađorđević of Yugoslavia (Serbian: Andrej Karađorđević ; born June 28, 1929 in Bled , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † May 7, 1990 in Irvine , California ) was the younger brother of the last ruling King of Yugoslavia, Peter II Karađorđević .

Life

Andreas was born the third son of the sovereign of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, King Alexander I Karađorđević , and Princess Maria of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen , daughter of King Ferdinand of Romania and Princess Marie of Edinburgh . His father died on October 9, 1934 in an assassination attempt in Marseille , France . Together with his brother Tomislav , he attended boarding schools in England and Switzerland .

On August 1, 1956, Andreas married Christina Princess of Hessen-Kassel (1933–2011) in Kronberg im Taunus . The marriage had two children:

  • Maria Tatjana (* 1957) ∞ Gregory Thune-Larsen
  • Christopher (1960-1994).

After a liaison with Kira Melita Princess von Leiningen (1930-2005), from which daughter Lavina (* 1961) emerged, he divorced his first wife and in 1962 married Kira Melita. The couple had two other children:

  • Karl Wladimir (* 1964) ∞ Brigitte Muller
  • Dimitri (* 1965)

At the end of 1972 he was divorced again, two years later he married Eva Maria Anđelković (* 1927).

On May 7, 1990, Prince Andreas was found dead in his car in Irvine , having suffered a heart attack.
