The Roundup respectively Roundup (also Round up Rounder) is a classic carousel type , in which the passengers like in a centrifuge of using centrifugal force be pressed against the outer wall.

construction

Lattice cages with base plates are mounted at the end of brackets attached to a central slewing ring. Each lattice cage usually has three standing places for passengers. The centrifugal forces generated by rapid rotation "stick" the passengers to the wall. The carousel is set in motion by friction wheels that press against a rotating ring. The rotating construction is lifted up to around 75 ° by a hydraulically driven arm. Newer constructions reach an inclination of almost 90 °.

history

The first round-up was built in 1954 by Frank Hrubetz in the USA . In 1957, Gustav Emde was the first to import such a carousel from US production and to travel with it to public festivals in Germany. The hydraulic drive of the arm was an innovation in amusement rides at that time. As the concept was very popular with visitors to the fair , round-ups were also produced from 1958 onwards at the German "Maschinenfabrik Klaus".

Thanks to their spectacular driving style and compact parking space, round-ups were among the most common and popular rides on German fairgrounds until the early 1980s . Today you rarely see the facilities. In the meantime, however, some renovated systems in Germany are on their way again.

Since 2006 the Fort Fun Adventure Land has an enclosed round-up with light and sound effects as a dark raver . Until the end of the 2018 season, Heide-Park operated a facility that was completely overhauled in 2009 and has been part of the Maya Valley since Huracan. At the beginning of February 2019 it was announced that this amusement ride will no longer be available from the 2019 season due to its age, excessive costs and a lack of spare parts and will be demolished.

Since 2017 there has been a variation of the round up in the Skyline Park Bad Wörishofen. The manufacturer of the Zero Gravity type is the Italian manufacturer SBF / Visa.

This type of amusement ride is also popularly called disparagingly puke or monkey cage .
