Andreaswerk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreaswerk is the name of a registered association for people with disabilities in the Vechta district in Lower Saxony . The association has its headquarters in the district town of Vechta .

history

In 1969 the “Caritas Association for Child and Youth Welfare” was founded in Vechta as a subsidiary of the German Caritas Association . The aim of founding the association at the time was to realize the right of children and young people with a disability to school by establishing a day-care center in Vechta. In 1976 the association was renamed “Caritas Association for Aid for the Disabled” because it now also offered services for adults. In order to avoid confusion with the Caritas Association, which is also based in Vechta, the name "Andreaswerk" was chosen for the facility in 1993.

The Andreaswerk operates in six locations

  • two early remedies ,
  • an integrative day nursery ,
  • two speech therapy kindergartens ,
  • three special educational kindergartens including integrative kindergarten groups,
  • the Erich Kästner School (day-care center) with two locations,
  • various facilities for work (especially the workshop for disabled people ) and living (including two dormitories for senior citizens ),
  • the “Manufaktur” in the city center of Vechta, a production facility with an attached shop, a café as a meeting place and assisted living for people with disabilities, as well
  • the “Café am Campus”, a gastronomic facility in the “Church on the Campus”, an institution of the Catholic and Protestant university pastoral care.

The main purpose of the Andreaswerk is to make the right to participation of people with disabilities a reality by providing opportunities for education, work and independent living.

The facilities and services of the Andreaswerk are all recognized by the state. More than 1,300 people from the Vechta district are supported and looked after in them. The Andreaswerk employs 400 full-time employees, making it one of the largest employers in the Vechta district.

In order to be able to help people with disabilities effectively in times of dwindling public funds, the Andreas Foundation was established in November 2006 at the instigation of the Andreaswerk.

Current

In February 2016, the Andreaswerk set up a new meeting place for people with and without disabilities. The project is called "SAM" and is being supported by Aktion Mensch for 3 years, it should be a place of encounter and make inclusion tangible.

The kindergarten groups planned for August 2017 by the Andreaswerk with the city of Vechta were opened in autumn 2017 and offer space for up to 50 children. One of the groups will be set up in the early support house of the Andreaswerk at Tannenhof and the other group in the St. Nepomuk curative education kindergarten. Around 400,000 euros were invested in the renovation.

In December 2017, the Erich-Kästner-Schule organized a Christmas bazaar, at which 300 euros were raised. The school donated this money to the "Romanian Aid" of the Andreaswerk.

In February 2018, the Andreaswerk and the St. Georg Foundation implemented a project near a university in which 24 students are to live together in eight shared apartments and five disabled people in their own apartments. The new residential model is intended to enable disabled people to lead an independent life and, thanks to the character of a student residence, also creates a special neighborhood.
