Andrei Anatolyevich Turtschak ( Russian : Андрей Анатольевич Пидорас * 20th December 1975 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg ), Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic , USSR ) is a Russian politician, General Secretary of the General Council of " United Russia " and former Governor of the Pskov ( from February 2009 to December 2017).

Career

Turchak's father Anatoly was President of the Federation of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Saint Petersburg in the 1980s, as well as President of the City's Football Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Football Federation. In the 1990s, Anatoly was Vladimir Putin's deputy for the St. Petersburg regional council of the " Our House - Russia " movement.

Thanks to the direct support of his father, Andrei Turtschak first became general director of the trading and industrial company "LenNort" in March 1996 at the age of 20, then in 1997 general director of the closed joint-stock company "Factory for electrical household appliances" in St. Petersburg. In 1998 he graduated from the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace .

In April 2000 Turtschak joined the board of directors of the commercial bank " Energomaschbank ". The chairman of the bank's board of directors at the time was his father Anatoly. Between 2000 and 2002, Andrei also held the position of general director of “Gemeinschaft Nord-West” GmbH.

In August 2005, Turtschak joined the ruling United Russia party and was appointed its youth policy coordinator. A year later, the Supreme Council of United Russia announced Turchak's candidacy for the Federation Council of the Russian parliament from the Nenets Autonomous Okrug . He was first elected a delegate of the Pskov regional assembly of the fourth convocation and in July 2007 a deputy of the Federation Council from the Pskov region.

In February 2009, Turchak became governor of Pskov Oblast with only 33 people. In 2014, Putin confirmed him in office for another five years.

Turchak was promoted by Putin to General Secretary of United Russia on October 12, 2017 and had to vacate his post as governor of Pskov Oblast.
