Andrei Wladimirowitsch Babuschkin ( Russian Андрей Владимирович Бабушкин ; born January 28, 1964 , Svyagino, Moscow Oblast , USSR ) is a Russian politician . He is a member of the Russian President's Human Rights Council .

Life

Andrei Babushkin studied sociology at the State University in Moscow . In 1989 he completed his studies and worked as a research assistant in Moscow. Since 1990 he has worked in various municipal agencies.

In 1996 he became chairman of the newly formed non-governmental organization Committee for Civil Rights . In 1999 he became a member of the Yabloko party . He ran for various elections. In 2008 he was directly elected deputy for the district assembly of Otradnoye with 33.7% of the vote. In 2012 he was re-elected with 45%.

Andrei Babushkin is a member of the Russian President's Human Rights Council. In 2012 he was appointed chairman of the working group to support social monitoring commissions and reform the prison system.

Andrei Babuschkin published numerous publications on current social problems.
