Michael Prince

Michael Prinz (born July 25, 1952 in Werne ; † November 18, 2016 in Münster ) was a German historian .

Life

From 1973 to 1977, Prinz studied history, Romance studies and social sciences in Münster and Bielefeld. After the first state examination, he worked as a research assistant at the North Rhine-Westphalian Main State Archives in Düsseldorf in 1977/78 . In 1983 he received his doctorate from the University of Bielefeld (with Jürgen Kocka ) with a thesis on the employees during the Nazi era, then he worked as a university assistant at the University of Bielefeld from 1984 to 1989. In 1990 he became a consultant for social and economic history at what is now the LWL Institute for Westphalian Regional History . In 1993 he completed his habilitation in Bielefeld with a thesis on consumer associations in Germany and England before the First World War. Prinz held visiting professorships in 1987 at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), in 1997 at the Free University of Berlin , in 1999/2000 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) and in 2002 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster (WWU).

Prinz's research focuses on German social and economic history of the 19th and 20th centuries.
