The LWL Westphalian Institute for Regional History is an institute for the study of regional history of the region Westphalia in sponsorship of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe , based in Münster .

It was founded in 1929 by the Provincial Association of the Province of Westphalia as a provincial institute for Westphalian regional and folklore studies . His previous heads include Franz Petri , Karl Teppe, Alfred Hartlieb von Wallthor and Bernd Walter .

Scientific Research

In terms of its thematic and methodological focus, the institute is special: It is the only scientific institution that is publicly funded and is primarily dedicated to researching Westphalian history in the 19th and 20th centuries. The institute's scientific speakers investigate the interactions between economy, society, culture and politics using the example of the Westphalia region. The LWL Institute realizes research projects with a wide range of topics.
