Andrej Ďurkovský (born September 5, 1958 in Bratislava ) is a Slovak politician (formerly KDH ). He was mayor of Bratislava from 2002 to 2010.

Ďurkovský graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak Technical University . After the Velvet Revolution he embarked on a political career and in 1990 joined the Christian Democratic Party KDH . In 1994 he became mayor of the Staré Mesto (Old Town) district in Bratislava. He held this office until 2002, when he was elected mayor of all of Bratislava to succeed Jozef Moravčík . In 2006 he was re-elected and will remain in office until 2010. He was followed by Milan Ftáčnik .

After the parliamentary elections on June 12, 2010 , he was elected member of the National Council for the KDH; According to his own statement, he will hold both mandates until the local elections in autumn 2010, but will not accept the National Council wages during this time.

Ďurkovský was heavily criticized both by residents of Bratislava and by activists for his dealings with city property and in particular with the Park kultúry a oddychu (PKO; German: Park of Culture and Recreation). The city council sold the land under the park to an investor in 2005 as part of a neighborhood called River Park . In March 2009 the city wanted to buy back the land, but the investor wanted 2.5 times the price, which the city refused. In December 2009, however, the city council passed a 20-year lease for a hall on the site of the PKO. This met with resistance from activists, who called Ďurkovský a “liar”, while the future of the park is not certain, even under threat of demolition.

Ďurkovský is married and has three children.

At the end of January 2011 Andrej Ďurkovský left the KDH parliamentary group in the National Council of Slovakia and the KDH. This means that the incumbent government currently has 77 seats in parliament - SMER-SD, SNS and the two independents 73.
