The Andrew Corporation is an international group of telecommunication -Ausrüsterbranche headquartered in Westchester , Illinois , USA . Andrew was founded in 1937 by Dr. Victor J. "Doc" Andrew. In 2006 the group had 11,000 employees. The fiscal year ends with the calendar year. Andrew claims to be the world market leader in his segment.
Company development
Andrew was founded as a manufacturer of high-frequency cables and antennas. The expansion of new business areas, especially in the areas of active high-frequency devices (amplifiers, base station subsystems, etc.) began later. In the course of extensive acquisitions, restructuring and disposals of various company divisions from around the year 2000 onwards, the product and service portfolio was significantly expanded. Pure production locations were partially sold or outsourced, or the consistent relocation to low-wage countries such as China or Mexico was promoted. The group pursues an aggressive acquisition and restructuring policy. External companies are continuously acquired (partly as a strategic portfolio addition, partly to thin out the competition) and parts of the company are sold (outsourcing, sale of unprofitable and inefficient branches or business areas, concentration on core business areas, etc.).
In July 2006, a planned takeover of Andrew by ADC Telecommunication failed in the course of a share swap due to a negative price development. In June 2007, a planned takeover of Andrew by Commscope Inc. through a share takeover was announced, which was implemented after the expiry of stock exchange law deadlines. The name Andrew will remain in the Commscope network.
