Andrew Nicholas Howard Dobson (born April 15, 1957 ) is Professor of Political Science at Keele University in Great Britain. His research focus is on environmental policy .

He became known through the book Green Political Thought , in which he describes the "deep green" ecologism as a political ideology and sets it apart from the "light green" of environmental protection .

Dobson studied from 1976 to 1979 at Reading University and received his PhD from Oxford University by 1983 . Until 1986 he was a postdoctoral fellow in Oxford, in 1986 he became a "Senior Lecturer" and in 1993 Professor at Keele University . Since 1996 he has been a visiting professor at Luleå University of Technology , Sweden.

Political commitment

Dobson ran for the Green Party of England and Wales in the UK general election in 2005 but was not elected. In 2006 he ran in the local elections in Keele as a candidate, but lost narrowly to the incumbent and local chairman of the Liberal Democrats .
