Andrew Hacker

Andrew Hacker (* 1929) is an American political scientist and publicist.

He is currently Professor Emeritus of the Department of Political Science at Queens College in New York . He studied at Amherst College until graduation . He then worked at Oxford University , the University of Michigan , and Princeton University where he received his doctorate .

His latest book, Higher Education? was created in collaboration with Claudia Dreifus , his partner. Professor Hacker publishes regularly in the New York Review of Books (NYRB). In his articles he questioned whether higher mathematics is necessary in schools and states: "Making mathematics a compulsory subject prevents us from discovering and promoting talented young people." ("Is Algebra Necessary?", NYTimes, 2012).
