Andrew Murray Dale

Andrew Murray Dale († May 1, 1919 in Mumbwa , Northern Rhodesia ) was a British colonial administrator and ethnologist . He joined the Ila in 1904 in the service of the British South Africa Company and had the rank of Captain in the British Army .

Dale had served in the Matabele and Bechuanaland campaigns and in the Boer War , he was Assistant Native Commissioner of the Wankie District in Southern Rhodesia for three years (1902–1904) , knew the Tebele language and was also a member of the Tonga on the north bank of the Zambezi traveled.

Dale is best known as the co-author of Edwin William Smith in the work on the Ili-speaking residents of Northern Rhodesia that appeared after his death.
