Andrew Zelig Stone, Baron Stone of Blackheath (born September 7, 1942 ) is a member of the Labor Party and the House of Lords .

biography

He was trained as an apprentice at Marks and Spencer in 1966 and retired in 1999 as the company's Joint Managing Director. As Baron Stone of Blackheath , of Blackheath in the London Borough of Greenwich , he was promoted to Life Peer in 1997 . He is currently the director of several private organizations as well as a retail company and is active with several non-profit organizations. He is the chairman of DIPEx, an organization that helps patients get information about their condition and options.

He was the non-executive chairman of Deal Group Media plc until resigning there in 2007. He is an Advisory Board Member of the Next Century Foundation .

He was very committed to the introduction of a smoking ban and rights for gays. He is a member of the Labor Party and does not usually rebel against his party. But he has repeatedly voted against the party in the House of Lords, both on the reform of the House of Lords and on the votes on the Prevention of Terrorism Bill and the Hunting Bill .

He is the host and moderator of the annual awards ceremony of the International Media Council (now part of the International Council for Press and Broadcasting ) in London. His political interests include: conflict resolution, art and science, health and ecology.

He is currently a director of N. Brown Group plc. He is chairman of the Sindicatum Climate Change Foundation and chairman of The DIPEx Charity , a non-profit health organization. He is a Governor of the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Honorable Vice President of the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain . He is a patron of the Institute for Jewish Policy Research , the Gauchers Association , the New Israel Fund , the Jewish Chernobyl Children organization , the Orphaids charity , The Forgiveness Project and LEAD Nepal - Development for the future of Nepalese Youth . He is a trustee of the Prism and the Olive Tree Foundation . He is a member of the Israel Britain Business Council , the Anglo Ecuadorian Society and The Labor Friends of Israel .
