Andrei Nikolajewitsch Saweljew ( Russian Андре́й Никола́евич Саве́льев; born August 8, 1962 in Svobodny , Amur Oblast , RSFSR , USSR ) is a Russian politician, nationalist, writer, author and doctor of political science. Between 2003 and 2007 he was a member of the Russian State Duma for the national conservative party Rodina .

Life

Savelyev graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in molecular and chemical physics in 1985 . Subsequently and until 1990 he worked at the Institute of Chemical Physics in the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1990 he finished his apprenticeship and got the scientific degree in the field of physical chemistry .

In 1993 Savelyev took two preparatory courses at the Kutafin State Law University in Moscow . A year later he completed training courses as a stock trader.

Saveliev began his political activities in 1992 when he and Dmitri Olegowitsch Rogozin founded the so-called Union of the Rebirth of Russia . This cross-party structure aimed to unite the Russian Christian Democrats, the military and right-wing Social Democrats. From 1990 to 1995 he was the director of the public center in the Moscow City Council. After the dissolution of this authority, Savelev worked as an analyst in the Social Policy Center of Russia in Moscow until 1998.

From 1999 to 2003 Savelyev was Rogozin's personal advisor in his position as Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations and Special Representative to the Russian President in Kaliningrad .

In December 2003 Savelyev was elected to the Duma of the fourth convocation and belonged to the Rodina faction. He left this, however, after the party was ideologically realigned in 2006 and renamed " Just Russia ".  

In January 2005, Savelyev was one of the 20 Duma deputies who initiated the so-called "5,000 letters". In it he demanded from the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation to ban all Jewish organizations in the country because of the alleged spread of misanthropy . His book “Can the Congress of the Russian Communities Russify Russia?” (“Сможет ли Конгресс Русских Общин русифицировать Россию”) has been included in the federal list of extremist materials.

At the founding convention of the far-right political party “Greater Russia” in May 2007, Savelyev was elected chairman. But to this day the party has been denied state registration.

Others

Saveliev is the chairman of the international fund "Russian Information Center". He is the author of more than 300 scientific and journalistic articles and is considered one of the strongest critics of Vladimir Putin's politics .

Private

Saveliev is married and has two sons.
