Andris Ameriks (born March 5, 1961 in Riga ) is a Latvian politician ( Sociāldemokrātiskā partija "Saskaņa" ).

Life

Andris Ameriks studied engineering at the Riga Technical University with a degree in 1984. In addition, he completed an economics degree at the University of Latvia in 1987. Ameriks was a member of the 5th and 6th Saeima . In March 2001 he became a member of the Riga City Council, where he was deputy mayor from 2010 to 2018. In the 2019 European elections , Ameriks received a mandate in the European Parliament . There he belongs to the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats in the European Parliament . He represents his group in the Committee on Transport and Tourism, in the Committee on Petitions and in the Delegation for Parliamentary Cooperation EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan and for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
