Andris Teikmanis (born November 29, 1959 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian diplomat and lawyer .

Life

Teikmanis graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Latvia with a degree in law . He then worked as an investigator and judge in Riga. From 1990 to 1994 Teikmanis headed the Rigans City Council as chairman. From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the Saeima , the Latvian parliament, and from 1992 to 1994 mayor of Riga. From 1994 to 1998 he was permanent representative with the rank of ambassador to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, and from 1998 to 2002 Latvian ambassador to Germany . From 2002 to 2005 he was Deputy State Secretary in the Latvian Foreign Ministry. From 2005 to 2008 he was ambassador to Russia. From 2008 he worked as State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry. In 2013 he became ambassador to Great Britain and in 2016 he took over the office of ambassador to the United States .
