Andromachos (son of Achaios)

Andromachos ( Greek  Ἀνδρόμαχος ), son of Achaios, was a general of the Seleucid Empire in the 3rd century BC.

Life

Andromachos was a son of the noble Achaios the Elder , through whom he was possibly connected to the Seleucid dynasty. His sister Laodike I was the wife of King Antiochus II and his daughter Laodike II was married to King Seleucus II . His son was Achaios the Younger († 213 BC), who later rose to be king.

During the fratricidal war between Seleucus II and Antiochus Hierax , who were both his nephews, Andromachos remained loyal to the former, who was also his son-in-law. Together with his son, Andromachos carried around 228 BC BC in the Armenian mountains a victory over an army of Antiochus Hierax by it. At an unknown time and under circumstances not mentioned he was taken prisoner by King Ptolemy III. advised by Egypt , who from 222 BC BC the younger Achaios of Antiochus III changed sides for his release . to the Ptolemies as a condition.
