Andrzej Kowalczyk (physicist)

Andrzej Antoni Kowalczyk (born April 29, 1948 in Toruń ) is a Polish physicist . Until his retirement in 2018, he mainly dealt with molecular and biophysics as well as optics .

Life

In 1965 he received the Abitur at the IV General Education High School in Toruń. He then studied theoretical physics at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń until 1970 . With Badanie relaksacji stanu wzbudzonego kumaryn he received his doctorate in 1979. 1980 to 1981 he was at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, from 1983 to 1984 at the Paterson Laboratories of the Christie Hospital in Manchester . In 1991 he was at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Leuven . In 1994 he completed his habilitation with Fotoluminescencja w zastosowaniach analitycznych . In 2004 he was awarded the title of Professor . From 2008 to 2016 he was vice dean of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Computer Science at Toruń University. He retired in September 2018. Thereafter, at the instigation of the Instytut Pamięci Narodowej, he was investigated on suspicion of earlier cooperation with the Polish secret service Służba Bezpieczeństwa . In January 2019, he was acquitted of this charge by the Toruń District Court.

Andrzej Kowalczyk is married and has one daughter.
