Andrzej Nikodemowicz

Andrzej Nikodemowicz (born January 2, 1925 in Lviv ; † January 28, 2017 in Lublin ) was a Polish composer , pianist and music teacher .

Nikodemowicz studied chemistry from 1942 to 1946. a. at the Polytechnic in Lemberg. From 1947 to 1950 he was the organist at the Church of St. Maria Magdalena in his hometown. He then studied composition with Adam Sołtys (until 1950) and piano with Tadeusz Majerski (until 1954) at the Lviv Conservatory . From 1951 he taught composition, music theory and piano here, during this time he also worked as a pianist and composer for the Volkstheater ( Polski Teatr Ludowy we Lwowie ) directed by Zbigniew Chrzanowski .

Because of his religious convictions, he was released from teaching in 1973 and earned his living as a piano teacher in the following years. In 1980 he went to Lublin and taught at the Maria Curie Skłodowska University and the Catholic University . From 1989 he was President of the Lublin Section of the Polish Composers Association and Honorary President of the Muzyka Kresów Foundation . In 1995 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1999 he was honored with the Prize of the President of the City of Lublin, in 2000 with the Prize of the Composers' Union and the Prize of the Polish Ministry of Culture. In addition to church music, Nikodemowicz composed mainly orchestral and piano works.
