Angelus Temple is a megachurch of the international Church of the Foursquare Gospel ( Pentecostal Movement ) in the Echo Park District of Los Angeles , California .
The Art Deco style building, designed by Brook Hawkins , opened on January 1, 1923. Converted to the year 2014, the construction costs amounted to 3,245,964.91 US dollars . The interior is designed in azure blue .
Preacher Aimee Semple McPherson , a pioneer evangelist on American radio, read services in that church; many of these were broadcast nationwide.
According to its own information, the church building had 40 million visitors in the first seven years at church services.
The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1992 . In the same year, the structure was also included in the National Register of Historic Places .
