content

The Russian Empire and the United Kingdom assured the integrity of Tibet. They also agreed that Tibet should exist as Chinese suzerainty . Any negotiations with Tibet should also only take place via China.

However, this did not affect Buddhist purely religious contacts in which a subject of a contracting state wishes to establish contact with the Dalai Lama or other Buddhist institutions.

The contracting states also assured each other that they would not send any representatives to Lhasa . Neither Great Britain nor the Russian Empire or their subjects should acquire concessions of any kind in Tibet or secure any income.

However, Great Britain was able to obtain assurance in the convention that the agreed trade rights , which had been negotiated in the agreements with Tibet (1904) and then with China (1906), would remain unaffected by the present agreements.
