Anja Wilhelm

Anja Wilhelm (born September 26, 1968 in Wolfsburg ) is a former German gymnast .

15-year-old Anja Wilhelm, starting for VfL Wolfsburg , achieved her first major international success when she took part in the finals on the balance beam at the 1983 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Budapest . At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles she reached 4th place with the team. In the years that followed, Anja Wilhelm dominated German artistic gymnastics for many years and won the bronze medal on the balance beam at the 1987 European Gymnastics Championships in Moscow . After saying goodbye to competitive sports and a successful comeback, she did not end her active career until the 1990s. She won a total of twelve German championship titles, which she won the third most behind Uta Schorn and Elisabeth Seitz .
