Ankaios (son of Zeus)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ankaios ( Greek  Ἀγκαῖος ) is in Greek mythology king of the Lelegs on Samos and a son of Zeus or Poseidon and Astypalaia .

Once a seer predicted that he would not drink wine from the vines he was planting . When he later, mocking the seer, held the full cup in his hand, the latter made the proverbial saying: "There is much between the cup and the edge of the lips." Suddenly the news arrived that a boar was devastating the land. Thereupon Ankaios set down the cup and hurried out, whereupon he was killed by the boar.
